Prof. Shai Shalev-Shwartz is the Chief Technology Officer of Mobileye, where he leads research and development underpinning the company's advanced driver-assistance and autonomous driving systems. He has played a central role in shaping the evolution of Mobileye AI architecture, bringing advances in computer vision, deep learning, and transformer networks into systems powered by Mobileye EyeQ technology, now deployed in about 230 million vehicles worldwide. He co-developed the scientific foundations of Responsibility-Sensitive Safety (RSS), with key principles adopted across global standards bodies, and continues to lead the work on the safety framework underlying all Mobileye systems.
Shalev-Shwartz has also co-founded two additional AI companies with Prof. Amnon Shashua. In 2021, together with Dr. Lior Wolf, they founded Mentee Robotics to develop autonomous humanoid robots for home and industrial environments, and in 2024 they founded AAI Technologies, which is building an AI scientist designed to accelerate scientific discovery.
He is a professor of computer science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has authored more than 200 research papers in machine learning, optimization, and algorithm design, and co-authored Understanding Machine Learning: From Theory to Algorithms, a definitive textbook widely used at leading universities worldwide. In 2020, he received the Michael Bruno Award for his contributions to computer science and engineering. Before joining Mobileye and Hebrew University, he held research roles at Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago, Google, and IBM.
