Mobileye President and CEO Prof. Amnon Shashua has been named to the 2025 TIME100 AI, a list recognizing the 100 most influential people in artificial intelligence worldwide. Shashua was recognized for his broad contributions across real-world applications of AI, spanning autonomous driving, robotics, language models, and advanced reasoning.
His career at the forefront of AI research has driven the commercial success and growth of Mobileye’s advanced driver-assistance and autonomous driving solutions. Since its inception 25 years ago, Mobileye has been among the earliest adopters and innovators of AI breakthroughs, transforming cutting-edge research into lifesaving automotive technologies deployed in millions of vehicles around the world.
Autonomous vehicles represent one of the most promising applications of Physical AI — where intelligence must interact with the real world, in real time, with real consequences. Its potential to revolutionize transportation and save millions of lives depends on achieving both safety and scalability, a challenge that has motivated Shashua’s work for more than two decades. Under his leadership, Mobileye has defined a clear path to autonomy and accessible automated driving that balances advanced AI with the engineering precision needed to make it safe, scalable, and transformative.
Shashua’s commitment to safety and transparency has been central to his influence on the industry. In 2017, Mobileye introduced Responsibility-Sensitive Safety (RSS), a framework for defining and ensuring safety in AI-driven autonomy. In 2024, he and Mobileye CTO Prof. Shai Shalev-Shwartz expanded this foundation by publishing A Safety Architecture for Self-Driving Systems, proposing core principles for designing AV technology, measuring performance and eliminating unreasonable risk. These contributions to the industry create a clearer roadmap for regulators, automakers, and the public to evaluate the safety of autonomous vehicles.
As co-founder of Mentee Robotics, Shashua is leading AI-first development of humanoid robots designed to operate in real-world environments, capable of executing advanced tasks for household and warehouse settings. The reveal of Mentee’s production-intent prototype in 2025, with advanced agility, strength, awareness and continuous operation, demonstrated the potential for Physical AI in industry and daily life.
With AAI Technologies, Shashua is tackling the next frontier in AI: cracking the code of superintelligence. Under Shashua’s leadership, AAI is developing new paradigms in deep reasoning and learning that emulate how scientists iterate toward discovery, charting a path for reaching superintelligent AI that can match and exceed human-level STEM expertise.
Together, these efforts reflect Shashua’s vision for AI across three pivotal domains affecting society: safe autonomy on the road, intelligent machines in the physical world, and expert-level reasoning to unlock breakthroughs in science and technology.
To assemble the list, TIME’s editors and reporters examined the key stories in AI over the past year and consulted with expert sources and industry leaders for recommendations. The result is a list of 100 leaders, innovators, shapers, and thinkers who have a stake in the future of AI.
