Building trust in AV safety among passengers, road users, and the broader industry is the path towards truly scalable autonomous driving. A key part of earning that trust is through gaining independent, third-party validation.

In March 2026, TÜV SÜD, an independent certification body, issued a formal recommendation for Mobileye's Safety Management System (SMS) for SAE Level 4 autonomous systems. This recommendation reflects an independent assessment of Mobileye's safety governance approach and represents a meaningful step toward meeting the standards required for broader autonomous vehicle deployment.

What is TÜV SÜD?

TÜV SÜD is a global testing, inspection, and certification organization that helps ensure products and systems meet safety and regulatory standards. The organization works across a range of industries, including automotive, where it evaluates ADAS and AV technologies that play a growing role in everyday road safety.

For both automakers and technology providers, TÜV SÜD sits outside the development process, making it an objective credible, independent source for technology validation. Its certifications signal strong industry alignment with key standards across functional safety, perception systems, cybersecurity, and software updates.

In practice, these standards help ensure that systems are not only designed to operate safely, but can also handle edge cases, maintain security, and keep up with evolving regulatory requirements, supporting safe deployment at scale

How does Mobileye meet TÜV SÜD standards?

Mobileye’s development of its safety management system, as part of its SAE-classified autonomous driving platform, underwent review by the TÜV SÜD auditors and received a formal recommendation for a System Conformity Audit Report. This indicates conformity SMS requirements set out in Regulation (EU) 2022/1426.

This followed a thorough, year-long review of Mobileye’s processes, policies, and organization of safety responsibilities for AV development, testing, and deployment across multiple global locations.

What does TÜV SÜD certification mean?

Meeting regional standards is key to bringing autonomous driving into real-world use beyond controlled or geofenced environments. For Mobileye's flagship autonomous driving platform, Mobileye Drive™, ongoing standardization efforts help create a clearer path toward regulatory approval and large-scale commercial deployment.

This kind of recognition reinforces Mobileye’s commitment to safety in both autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance and reflects production ready AV systems designed for commercial deployment.
