Accumulating miles of testing and over-engineering the technology isn’t enough to guarantee that autonomous vehicles will be safe, and safer than human drivers. That’s why Mobileye has authored the Responsibility-Sensitive Safety (RSS) model.
Through RSS, we can program autonomous vehicles to abide by rules – simple rules that human drivers might intuitively take for granted, but which self-driving cars need in order to make sure that they don’t cause accidents, and avoid those caused by others whenever possible.
Those rules will be baked into every autonomous vehicle we and our partners will put on the road. But beyond our own application, we hope the industry will adopt it as a standard for all autonomous vehicles.
