Delving into MaaS for AV day

On National Autonomous Vehicle Day, we focus on how Mobileye shapes the way we move

People love to travel, to explore, to discover. We often see ourselves navigating towards the future, setting course, and arriving at our destination. But as technology advances and changes our lives, it is perhaps time to let go of the steering wheel and put our trust in the autonomous mobility vision.

It’s MaaS and autonomous

Autonomous systems are transforming our commute, our access to mobility, and our experiences in public spaces. However, when addressing the future of mobility around our cities and in our streets, we must distinguish it from the services we know today that are referred to as MaaS from public transport services to on-demand ride or delivery apps, that arrive with a person at the wheel.

Mobileye is not recreating mass transit or taxis, rather working on making them autonomous. We bring innovative know-how and proven track record to make those existing services driverless, while also safer than now, cost-effective, and scalable within the existing infrastructure.

Mobileye helps solve mobility problems not by reinventing the (steering) wheel, but by relying on tested and proven mobility concepts, such as on-demand shuttles, and working together with mobility experts of different colors to drive its vision forward. We have established a central position allowing us to work with OEMs, transport operators, and public officials, responding to their needs, while never forgetting the end users who will benefit from it all.

Driving solutions

The introduction, and growing success, of Mobileye Drive™, Mobileye’s fully autonomous system for mass transit, is a clear example of Mobileye’s potential to reshape mobility. Like our other platforms and technologies, Drive has satisfied rigorous regulations and testing, and, in some cases, has even helped raise the bar of industry expectations, thanks to our extensive knowledge.

The platform is agnostic and its one-size-fits-most approach empowers its capabilities to operate in different locations, with different vehicles, and help solve distinct issues many cities and communities face. In early 2024 it was announced that Mobileye Drive would begin testing and validation in Zagreb, Croatia as part of our collaboration with local company Project 3 Mobility. It is also being tested on the streets of Munich and Austin, Texas as part of Mobileye's work with the VW group, and in Oslo in a pilot with Ruter and Holo

The AV impact

Cities all around the world are similar in many ways; they house a big population, have large-scale infrastructure systems, a public education system, and spaces for culture to prosper. However, as the cities grew in the past century, their residentsreliance on cars grew as well, leading to increased congestion, pollution, and reduced safety. But every city is also unique, and every metropolitan, town or village has specific characteristics and needs that distinguish it. In dealing with those challenges, mobility must evolve, or it will become an obstacle. By offering autonomous solutions to MaaS infrastructure, we can reinvent the ways we go anywhere and everywhere.
