Government Leaders ‘Can't Take High-Tech for Granted’

One of Israel’s premier business publications, Globes recently interviewed our CEO, Prof. Amnon Shashua. As one might expect, the interview covered a broad range of subjects, from Mobileye’s business and the progress of autonomous vehicle technology to the nature of Israel’s growing mobility-tech sector and the challenges of government regulation, and even Shashua’s recommendations to the government on how to manage the COVID-19 crisis. 

Autonomous vehicle development “has never been an automobile manufacturers’ game. It’s always been in the tech producers’ court, and the automotive industry has come to recognize this,” said Shashua. Mobileye has made great strides on that front, and helped to create a thriving ecosystem for mobility tech in Israel. But our government leaders can’t take that leadership position for granted. 

“I really want it to be in Israel, but it's important that our decision makers also understand that you can't take high-tech for granted,” Shashua cautioned. “My message to the decision makers is: there is a huge industry where Israel has the opportunity to be a leader, and that requires our decision makers to live up to their promise to provide regulatory backing.”
